Leave your car anywhere in the main square of Busquistar and head downwards through narrow alleyways until at the end of the village you will see a sign saying: GR142 Notaez (1 hr 30 mins). Follow this down to the bridge crossing Trevelez river and as soon as you cross the bridge continue upwards and walk for about 40 minutes until you reach the tarmac road at the top signposted Trevelez, Juviles, and straight over for Castares 4 km. Here you can either continue walking to Castares and the village of Notaez or return the same way you came.

A second option is, just after you cross the bridge you will see a narrow path going to the right – if you follow this you will eventually get to Fondales where you can cross over the roman bridge and into the village. Ideally if you have a member of your family who doesn’t want to join the walk, then if you go this route, they can pick you up either in Mecina or Fondales. However, if you are feeling strong you can keep walking through Mecina and onto Ferreirola and from there you can walk to Pitres which is signposted. This is a long walk, possibly taking a whole day.

Alternatively if you are feeling really strong then you can start from Cortijos Rey Fini, go upwards towards the semi demolished cortijos where the dogs are and then pick up the route GR7 (just in front of Cortijos) and continue to Busquistar. This would add approximately 2 hours to your walk. You can then continue your walk down to the river as above.
