This is about half an hour from Motril towards Malaga and has a pebble beach.
If you are coming from our cortijos then it is quicker if you join the motorway at Almunecar and come out again next exit where it says Herradura. Then follow the sign to Herradura.
If you are coming from the airport and you need a break then follow the sign to Herradura from the motorway. This is currently when the motorway ends. When you get to Herradura, turn left and drive to the end where the road starts to go uphill.
There you will find a small beach which is good for snorkelling.
Just before it is an excellent restaurant called El Chambao de Joaquin serving paella and other seafood prepared on large open fires on the beach. They also serve other local seafood dishes such as skewered sardines and squid cooked on the open fire.
However there are dozens of other restaurants along the beach but we have yet to find one as nice asChambao de Joaquin.
At the extreme opposite side of the beach there is another restaurants called Chambao de Vicente which is not as nice.
There are other restaurants and several pizzerias and a good ice cream shop along the road.
