Welcome to the centre

An interesting and beautiful place to visit is the O Sel Ling Buddhist centre which at 1600m has stunning views over the Poqueira valley and beyond.  The name given the centre by the Dalai Lama in 1982 means “Place of Clear Light” and it is visited by people from all over the world.  O Sel Ling is one of twenty Buddhist teaching centres that exist in Spain. The space is made up of 30 individual cabins to which those wishing to find themselves go to meditate or simply for peace and quiet,   It is said that the people who have passed through here have left behind a special atmosphere which gives peace to those who visit.

To get there you need to drive towards Pampaneira.  Shortly afterwards you will come to Padre Eterno, a chapel and shrine on the left hand side of the road with space to park.

You can park your car here and walk up the mountains to the centre. Allow four hours hike both ways.   Or alternatively, you can drive.  Just opposite the chapel there is a camino forestal or rough road which you take and keep driving on up until you find a sign to O Sel Ling on the right.   This is a dirt road which you follow until you see signs for visitors and parking space.

They accept visitors from 3:30 to 6 pm when the reception is open. During other times they are meditating or busy doing their work. If you go after 6 pm then you can gently and quietly climb up until you reach theTara statue, with breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere with a lily pond right at the top.
