Walk from Mecina to Fondales (Caminos Rurales en la Taha (Granada)

There are several alternative walks from Mecina and the villages nearby.

1) Mecina to Fondales
This is a short walk – you can either drive to Fondales and leave your car in the square but sometimes as there is not much space it is easier to leave your car in the car park in Mecina which is behind the main hotel on the left and walk down.

It doesn’t matter which way you go, just keep going downhill until you reach Fondales and from there continue down towards the river until you see the beautiful roman bridge and ruined mill beside it. It is interesting to note that next to most of these Roman bridges there are still remnants of old water mills.

There is a stunning canyon and for those of you who like to swim or bathe there are various pools – but watch out, the water is full of iron, the rocks slippery and the current strong, but it is very beautiful.

You can either return to your car now or the road continues across the bridge to Orgiva (over 2 hours walk) or to Busquistar. The Busquistar road is about a 2 hour walk on the path to the left after you cross the bridge. Or just come back and on the way you can treat yourself to some nice tapas and a cold beer. The bar just before the car park is an obvious place. If you want to have proper lunch then you have many different options. Also the Pizzeria Cueva de la mora luna and behind it the Vegetarian L’Atelier restaurant – both offer good menus.

After lunch if you still feel strong you can continue your walk from Fondales to Ferreirola on the GK142 which is signposted which will take you in a circle back to Mecina. This would take you about 2 hours.
