Granada & Seville

Further afield from the cortijos

1 Granada
Ironically Cortijos Rey Fini are only 25 km away from Sierra Nevada and Granada, but the short route has been closed recently and to get to Granada now you must drive to Lanjaron and then join the N-23 to Granada.

Give him alms, woman, for there is nothing in life so cruel as being blind and in Granada” Francisco de Icaza

Santa Ana, Granada

Old part of Granada, Santa Ana, a short way from the Alhambra.

Few who visit the city would disagree; Granada should not be missed. The Alhambra regarded by many as the most dramatic and evocative monument in Europe, was the palace/fortress of the last Muslim kingdom in Spain. The setting is magnificent. To get there, it is best to get up early, especially during June, July, August, drive to Lanjaron and on to Granada. Just before Granada follow the signs to Alhambra, about 55 kms from the cortijos. From the Alhambra, you can continue to Sierra Nevada. During the winter months the ski resorts should be booked in advance. During the summer not only hostels are closed but plenty of walkers are around. There is also a daily bus from Granada to Sierra Nevada.

Alhambra

The best and most famous late medieval castle and gardens in Europe, the Alhambra, Granada.

2 Seville

Granada and Seville are the most interesting cities in southern Spain and Seville is the largest city of Andalusia and the most interesting one.

Tapas bar

Tapas bars are one of the main features of eating in cafes in southern Spain and normally they accompany any drinks.

However, a day trip is rather too much. You could possibly combine Granada and Seville and stay one night in Seville. Seville is an enchanting place and there is much pleasure to be had in strolling the streets in one of the city’s barrios and if the sun is too hot (especially in July and August) then a cool bar, a glass of fino and a selection of tapas could be an alternative to walking in the heat. Spring and Autumn are the best time to visit. From Granada follow the A92 all the way to Seville (approx 3 hours).
