Dear Mo and family,

We didn't meet and only had very nice contact by email, but our 4 day stay at the almond cortijo was wonderful. It feels a bit strange to walk into a house when nobody is around but David came to say Hello and so we knew that we could contact him if we had questions.
We enjoyed every minute of those 4 days. The weather was sunny at daytime and cold when the sun set. It felt so good to have breakfast sitting on the wall of the terrace in the sun and look in the distance and hear nothing except a cuckoo. The cosy almond cortijo felt like a warm coat and the nights were so quiet and dark. We have slept very well.
But most of all we felt so relaxed, reading a book, swimming in the swimming pool, watching the tomtit ( small bird with a yellow breast ) who had made a nest in one of the three pots above the door and was busy to feed the yong ones.
The tip to go early to the Alhambra was a good one. We didn't have any trouble to get a ticket and is was a great experience.
We did some nice walks and the Alpujarras are really beautiful during this time of the year with all the flowers.
I am sure that this stay will not be the last and that one day we will return and enjoy the Alpujarras and the Cortijos Rey Fini again.
Hope to meet you and your family then,
Regards Berry and Irene

Dear Lucy, Mo, and Leo,

Thank you very much to the three of you for the lovely week we spent at your cortijo. We chose your cortijo for its location in the heart of Las Alpujarras and its large swimming pool but discovered that it had so much more to offer: organic fruit and vegetables (the cherry tomatoes !), an incredible view on the valley, … and your warm hospitality. The pizza evening to which you invited us was a highlight of our stay. We hope to come again, there are so many hikes we have not done yet!

Take care,

You can´t have everything in one family holiday, I suppose, but Cortijos del Rey is as fine a balance as I’ve come across in terms of providing options for a variety of tastes. Take the actual accommodation, for example: it’s everything you’d expect of traditional Alpujarran cortijos with a modernisation using natural materials which leaves you comfortable without taking away the simplicity of the original. The cortijos themselves are complemented by the wonderful outdoor spaces which, in my opinion, are the most memorable aspects of Cortijos del Rey: you can relax under the cool shade of a vine-clad pergola or soak up the rays beside the spring-fed swimming pool; there is no shortage of picturesque nooks where you can catch a bit of privacy; there is ample space for a walk through the fruit trees on the property itself, or you can follow the trails up into the National Park where there are challenges to suit everyone, from weekend strollers to seasoned hikers. The location of Cortijos del Rey is unbeatable, you can enjoy privacy and stunning views without being isolated. Iconic Alpujarran villages such as Trevelez and Capileira are just a few minutes’ drive away and both Granada and the coast are comfortable day trips. All in all, there is way too much to see and do in just one week in Cortijos del Rey – I for one will be making a prompt return.

To Mo and Lucy,

Thank you so much for giving us the oportunity to stay at this most beautiful place you have so beautifully restored. The cortijos are so beautiful inside and out and the location makes this place so magical.

We were very lucky to have the entire place to ourselves and this made our anniversary much more special.

We hope to come again.

So sorry not to have emailed before. Thank you for allowing us to stay
in your beautiful cortijos. It was absolutely perfecto! It was quite
chilly for the first few days but we enjoyed the fire (could not get
the central heating to work but we just wrapped up). Yes it did snow -
I was half hoping we would get stuck there - but then the sun came out
and we all got red noses. My son and daughter even jumped in the pool
- Ollie was straight out the other side but Kate did 3 lengths despite
finding breathing difficult with the shock of the cold!

It was just the most perfect way for me to wind down after the usual
stress of FT fortnight followed by end of year accounts and all that
stuff. Just what I needed when I needed it.

We did succeed to steal a pillow case that one of our party must have
borrowed so can get that back to you.
I do hope we left everything Ok. We all came and went at different
times so there was just myself and Kate and Ollie left at the end. We
were relyng on the bus so had to leave at 6 am and carry the rubbish
with the rest of our luggage on the bus. We did leave behind a couple
of empty water containers as we could not carry them. I hope that is
alright.

So thank you once again and I would certainly be back like a shot -
have shown photos to lots of people and directed them to your web site
- hope that is OK.

Thank you so much to Mo, Lucy and family.

We stayed in Pablito for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our 3 month old baby was so relaxed and enjoyed herself a lot too.
We sampled your delicious fruits and vegetables...thank you, they were delicious.
Wish we could have stayed longer- the weekend went much too quickly!
Hopefully will be able to visit again for longer.

Muchas gracias for a wonderful weekend

Hi Mo & Lucy,

Thankyou for letting us use Almond which was fabulous. We had a brilliant week in beautiful surroundings eating home grown produce picked each day from the garden. This part of Spain is very special and unspoilt. Long may it continue to be so (but don't tell everyone!). We will be back for sure.

Thanks again, Chris, Fe & Bella - see you in Bath sometime

Hola Mo,

thanks again, we spent lovely 3 days at Pablito, small walk on the first day, great trip on the 2nd with fascinating views over to Africa, and finally a visit to Trevelez (beautiful) and to the damaged Pista Forestal, with some drops of rain in the afternoon, so we didn't waste a minute. We put fresh cells into the Junkers boiler so it works smoothly now, tried to keep the place tidy and left 75 + 25 Euros on the table. Hope to come back one day again

Petr + Jana

PS: It's not just the style of the cortijos, but the philosophy behind as well. Highly appreciated.

We greatly enjoyed our 5 nights in late October. the nights were cool but with the fire stoked up we kept very cosy inside Pablito's. The fruit and veges were everything other guests have written - the ripe green and black figs and the chestnuts were especially memorable.
And sitting outside in the morning on the stone patio in the sun eating fresh fruit while stretching the previous days' tired walking legs was fabulous...

Thanks very much to Mo and family - we want to try your Chilean cottages next!

ps for other potential users: Pablitos was just great (and inexpensive) for two independent middle-aged kiwis who love the outdoors - we would go back like a shot - but it is just a shepherd's cottage -natural light is limited, the design is basic, some care is needed with the firebox... - but once you open the stable doors to the outside you know you are in the high Alpujarras and they are fantastic! If you want luxury Mo has the other houses in the same extensive gardens.

pps good birdwatching from the patio too!

Dear Mo, Lucy and Leo,

Thank you so much for having us this summer. We loved Pablito, the views, the food, the pool and the peace, and we especially enjoyed our evening dining (and dancing?!) with your local friends. Leo, thanks for taking us on the "gentle stroll" up the mountain and Mo, thanks so much for the lifts and the food - your stews are delicious. We had the most relaxing time (and not just during our outrageously late lie ins) and staying with you for four nights was the definite highlight of our two week holiday in Spain. If you'll have us we would love to return.
Thanks for your hospitality and all the best, Katherine and Anton.

Dear Mo and Family,

It was the very first time for us in the Alpujarras and luckily we had the opportunity to stay at Almond cortijo. What a magnificant place! One week full of sunshine, stunning views and fantastic surroundings. Had a lot of fun in the pool and the kids loved the bikes and the wheelbarrow. And wow, what a beautiful fruit and veg garden you have! Made use of it a lot, especially our 3year old eating tomatoes, cucumber, figues and nuts whenever he could. We enjoyed every single minute we stayed there and so did the kids. You made us feel so much at home as if we were old friends of you! Thank you so much for one of the most relaxing weeks we ever had.
We'll be back and hope to meet you all then.

Dear Mo and Family

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your amazing place for a week last September. Despite the rain and hail we experienced we had a fantastic time staying in pablito. Superb views and a great location, just a shame it was too cold to enjoy the pool. Made use of your home grown fruit and veg. Thanks again for your hospitality and hope to return again next year.

Quel cadre magnifique!

We have recently visited Walnut cortijo for the second time in as many years, and have spent the most relaxing, enjoyable two weeks imaginable. The facilities, the scenery, and the general atmosphere of the place are just perfect: a wonderful place in which to unwind. The Fini family made us feel so much at home, and generously allowed us to share their part of this Spanish paradise. We'll be back!

I am a very good friend of Mo and family, so my opinion may not be completely independent. I have been there every summer since the cortijo was only in Mo's mind, and have seen all the improvements. Good taste and dedication can be seen in all small details. The "long and winding road" is shorter every year, the trees are strongers and the fruits larger. The "sounds of silence" are only interrupted by Maná's live concert, and the freezing water will make your heart beatmore than ever.

Even though the place is marvellous, there could be something similar somewhere. But what you will never find is another Fini family.

Yes, I was very happy.
