The nearest airport is Granada, although Malaga and Almeria are just as easy. From the UK Ryan air and Easy jet provide cheap flights to all these airports.
Cars can easily be booked online and most airlines offer special prices for car hire.
Follow signs to Granada and then take the E902 sign posted to Motril. Drive for about 20 minutes until you see a sign for Lanjaron. Follow this road to Lanjaron and continue until you reach Orgiva. Just below Orgiva turn towards Trevelez and drive until you get to the village of Busquistar. This is the last village before the cortijos and you can stock up in the mini supermarkets and then head towards Trevelez. You will find the cortijos exactly 4 kms from Busquistar on the left. (Just after the cortijos there is a sign to Las Balsas on the right on the main road.) Drive up the hill and you will find each cortijo signposted.
Head towards Malaga and follow the motorway sign posted Granada, Sevilla, Motril and Almeria. Follow this motorway for a few miles until you see Motril and Almeria sign posted to the right and Sevilla and Granada straight on. You can go either way: Motril and Almeria will take you through coastal towns and Granada through the mountains.
We recommend the coastal or Motril route, specially that a new Motorway just being opened in parts which makes the journey much quicker.
If you go the coastal route drive until you get to Motril and then join the E902 highway towards Granada. The new motorway just being opened. This will take you to a new roundabout which is sign posted Granada, Orgiva and Almeria. If you take the motorway then after 15 minutes drive you will see signs for Orgivia which you should take.
Alternatively you could take the second exit from the roundabout which also will take you to Granda and Orgiva. This is the old route and very pretty and it will take you perhaps several minutes longer. Drive for approximately 20 minutes and just before the newly built dam (signposted to Velez de Benaudalla) turn right over a small bridge to Orgiva and Alpujarra. Follow the road to Orgiva. Just before Orgiva you have to cross a narrow bridge and then go all the way through the town till you get out the other side of Orgiva. Follow the tourist road on your right towards Bubbion and Trevelez and drive continue without coming off this road going through many villages such as Pitres, Portugos until you get to the village of Busquistar. The Cortijos located approximately half way between Busquistar and Trevelez and both have plenty of shops, butchers, bakery etc.
If you are driving within Spain then depending on where you are coming from you will have to go via Granada or Motril (see instructions above).
